What is carbon footprint?

Carbon footprint of a product (CFP) is sum of greenhouse gas emissions and removals in a product system, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalents and based on a life cycle assessment using the single impact category of climate change (ISO 14067). In principle, carbon footprint and LCA are the same, while LCA involves several impact categories, the carbon footprint considers only one impact category (i.e., climate change). According to ISO 14067, the carbon footprint also uses the four stages of the LCA.
